Color Palette Generator
A colour palette is a set of colours that work together. This tool takes one base colour and derives harmonies from the colour wheel: shades of the same hue, neighbouring hues, opposites, and evenly spaced trios and quartets. Each result is shown as a swatch with its hex value.
The schemes
- Monochromatic: one hue across different lightness values.
- Analogous: hues that sit next to each other on the wheel.
- Complementary and split complementary: opposite hues, and the two neighbours of the opposite.
- Triadic and tetradic: three and four evenly spaced hues.
- Shades and tints: the base hue, darker and lighter.

Frequently asked questions
What does this tool do?
It builds colour schemes — monochromatic, analogous, complementary, triadic and more — from a single base colour.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The colour maths runs entirely in your browser.
Which colour can I start from?
Any hex colour, for example #3366cc. A three-digit shorthand such as #abc is expanded automatically.
What is a complementary scheme?
Two colours opposite each other on the colour wheel, which tend to contrast strongly.
How are the colours calculated?
The base is converted to hue, saturation and lightness; related colours rotate the hue or change the lightness.
Are these centred on a specific design standard?
No. The schemes are conventional colour-wheel relationships; adjust them to taste or your brand.
