The 26–30 mm face band: unlike the 32–36 mm band used by France, Germany or Italy, the Dutch standard measures the face smaller — 26–30 mm from chin to crown for ages 11+. Roughly one in six Dutch applications still gets bounced on photo issues, and wrong face size is a top reason. When you adjust the crop in our tool, leave a little more headroom than you would for other EU formats.
Glasses are fine (with conditions): the Netherlands never joined the glasses ban. Keep them on only if the lenses are fully transparent with zero glare and both eyes are clearly visible — otherwise take them off.
Three background colours: light grey, light blue or white are all official. Shoot against any plain light wall; our preset defaults to white.
Babies get a pass: children under 6 are exempt from the level-eyes, straight-head and neutral-expression rules — the baby exceptions match what we describe in the baby photo guide.
