Brazil quirks worth knowing
- One size, two notations: the official eVisa photo instructions state 3.5 × 4.5 cm and give 413 × 531 pixels as the matching digital size — same crop, so a file exported here works for both the printed and the uploaded requirement.
- 2 MB upload cap: the portal rejects files above 2 MB. If your export is too heavy, run it through the image compressor first.
- Strict on glasses and smiles: unlike some countries, the official checklist explicitly bans spectacles and smiling — take them off and keep a neutral face.
- Consular (paper) applications: a few Brazilian consulates abroad that still accept paper filings list 2 × 2 inch photos. If you apply through a consulate instead of the online portal, check your consulate's own checklist first.
eVisa photo vs consular photo
Brazil is one of the countries that publishes two different photo expectations depending on which door you knock on, and mixing them up is the usual reason a submission bounces. Through the online portal the instructions are unambiguous: 3.5 × 4.5 cm print, or 413 × 531 pixels for the digital upload, on a plain white ground, JPEG, 2 MB or smaller. A consulate that still accepts a paper filing may list a 2 × 2 inch photo in its own checklist, so read the specific post's instructions before you commit to a size — the format is not interchangeable between the two routes.
The remaining failures are ordinary. The portal caps the upload at 2 MB, so a heavy phone JPEG has to be brought down before it will go through, which the image compressor does without touching the pixel dimensions. Background and light matter most otherwise: a shadow falling on the white wall behind the shoulders is treated as an object, so shoot with the light in front of you and stand clear of the wall. The white background is specified, not merely preferred, so a grey or cream wall is not a shortcut. Print at 300 dpi and the 35 × 45 mm crop lands on the 413 × 531 the checklist asks for.
How it works
- Tap the button — the Brazil 413 × 531 format is pre-selected.
- Upload a photo taken against a plain white wall (see the home photo guide).
- Face detection frames the crop; download the JPEG and upload it to your eVisa application.
Everything runs locally in your browser — the photo never leaves your device.
