Renewing online?
Online renewal through MyTravelGov needs the digital file only — 600 × 600 px or larger, square, JPEG. Our tool exports exactly that at 300 DPI print quality, so the same file works for both the upload and any prints your application requires.
Paper route or MyTravelGov upload?
US applications split two ways. Paper and in-person submissions at a Post Office or agency want 2 × 2 inch prints, so print the 600 × 600 export at 300 DPI and cut to size. MyTravelGov renewals take the digital file alone — no print, no studio trip. Either route starts from the same square crop.
Getting a usable 2 × 2 file
- Open the tool — the 2 × 2 inch square preset is already selected.
- Face a white wall with even light, shoulders level, and no glasses (the home photo guide has the at-home setup).
- Face detection keeps the head between 50% and 69% of the frame; nudge the slider if the chin sits too high or low, then save the 600 × 600 px JPEG.
Detection and export are handled in the browser tab itself — your file is read from and written to your own disk, never relayed to a server.
