Which countries does the checker cover?

It uses the same specification chart as the rest of the site, so it covers every country in the passport and visa photo size chart.

What does the checker test?

Pixel dimensions, aspect ratio against the chosen format, head position (when a face is detected), background brightness/evenness/colour cast, and overall exposure and contrast.

What can it not check?

Anything that is not visible in the file — print finish (gloss or matte), whether a print measures the right size, and whether the photo is a scan or photocopy. Those are flagged for you to confirm.

How the check works

The checker reads the published specification for the country you pick, then measures your image with Canvas: the pixel dimensions and aspect ratio are compared to the official format, a lightweight face detector locates the head for an indicative head-occupancy and eye-line estimate, and the border is sampled for background brightness, evenness and colour cast. Overall exposure and contrast are measured too.

If no face is detected — for example an unusual crop or an angled shot — the checker says so and falls back to size-and-ratio checks only, rather than guessing. Items that cannot be judged from a file (print finish, the true printed size, whether the photo is a scan) are listed for you to confirm yourself.
