Egypt Passport Checklist — Fees, Validity & How to Apply
Egyptian passports are issued by the Ministry of Interior's General Administration for Passports, Immigration and Nationality and its governorate branches, with applications from abroad going to Egyptian consulates. The official page is blunt about what the document is: a personal document that cannot be shared, and one that cannot be changed once issued. The three hard rules
- Personal only — no family endorsements. The machine readable passport belongs to its holder alone; a wife or children cannot be added to it.
- Valid 7 years.
- No changes after issue. Data on an issued passport cannot be modified or added to.

Premium vs urgent — how to choose
- Premium service (خدمة جواز السفر المميز) — issue and collection on the same day, and it is not tied to your place of residence or local jurisdiction.
- Urgent service (خدمة جواز السفر العاجل) — collection on the next working day, and it must be applied for within your local jurisdiction.
So if you need the passport today and you are outside your home governorate, the premium option is the one that works; the cheaper urgent option is next-day and jurisdiction-bound.
How to apply
- Collect Form 29 (the machine readable passport form) free of charge from the General Administration or any of its governorate branches.
- Complete page 1 yourself.
- Pay the prescribed fee.
- If you are outside Egypt, submit your application to the nearest Egyptian consulate.
The official page lists the form, the fee and the expedited services, but does not itemise the supporting documents (such as national ID or photographs) — so the full document list is 待补 (awaiting official source).
