Maldives Passport Checklist — Documents & Application Steps
Maldivian passports are applied for online through IMUGA, the Maldives Immigration portal, with payment, appointment and collection handled around it. This checklist sets out the steps and documents the Immigration service publishes. Verified against Maldives Immigration (immigration.gov.mv), October 2026.
Apply through IMUGA
- Register on IMUGA at imuga.immigration.gov.mv and select 'Dhivehi Passport'.
- Start a New Application.
- Upload your passport photo — taken within the last 1 month and meeting the Passport Photo Standard — plus a clear photograph of your signature.
- Once verified, you receive an SMS.
- Pay through the BOM gateway.
- An SMS gives your collection time; take a QueueBee queue number at the office.
Documents
- National ID (NID).
- Your old passport where applicable.
- A passport photograph taken within the last month, to the Passport Photo Standard.
- A clear photo of your signature.
Collecting your passport
At collection, present your own ID and, if your previous passport has not expired, that old passport. The photo rules are set out on the Maldives passport photo page.
Special channels
- Medical emergency (expedited). Requires medical proof; a third party may submit the photograph on your behalf.
- Elderly assistance channel. There is a dedicated assistance channel for older applicants.
Renewal cancellation fee
If the passport you are renewing still has more than 1 year of validity left, a cancellation fee of MVR 100 per year of remaining validity applies. It is waived if the passport is full or has less than 1 year of validity remaining. Someone with an IMUGA account can apply on behalf of family members.
