Morocco Visa Documents Checklist
Morocco’s consulate publishes a single set of base documents for an ordinary visa, then adds category-specific paperwork for tourism, work, business, investment and other purposes. The details below are taken from the official consular page at consulat.ma, verified 2026-09-30. One point stands out early: the photo is 4 × 3 cm on a white background — a different shape from the 35 × 45 mm used by many passport photos.
Morocco visa documents checklist — the short answer
| Application form | Entry visa application form into the Kingdom of Morocco |
| Photos | Two colour photos, white background, 4 × 3 cm |
| Identity / address | Identity card, residence permit or any document proving the address |
| Passport | Valid, and its validity must be longer than the duration of stay |
| Passport copy | Photocopy showing the identity and validity pages |
| Funds | Bank statement |
| Purpose evidence | Invitation / travel agency request (tourism), or the category-specific document below |
The photo: 4 × 3 cm, white background
The consulate asks for two identity photographs in colour on a white background (4 x 3 cm) showing the features of the face clearly. That wording repeats across the categories, so the same photo rule applies whether you are applying to visit, work, invest or study.
The detail worth pausing on is the size. A 4 × 3 cm photo is a landscape rectangle, and it is not the 3.5 × 4.5 cm (35 × 45 mm) format that many countries use for passport photos. If you already hold a printed passport photo, do not assume it fits: set your crop to 4 × 3 cm and print at 100 percent. The consulate specifies the size and the white background and asks that the face be clear; it does not publish a head-size proportion or an expression rule, so none is assumed here. If you want help checking a photo against a published format, our photo size chart lists national formats and the passport photo checker can test an image in your browser.
Documents required for the application
The consulate splits the tourism file into two moments. For the application itself, the documents to be submitted are:
- Entry visa application form into the Kingdom of Morocco;
- Two identity photographs in colour on a white background (4 × 3 cm) showing the features of the face clearly;
- Identity card or residence permit, or any document that proves the address;
- A valid passport — its validity must be longer than the duration of stay;
- A photocopy of the passport (the pages indicating the identity and the validity);
- A bank statement;
- Either an attestation of invitation duly legalised (for a family visit, including a guarantee of covering medical and possible repatriation expenses), or a request from an authorised travel agency, or a recommendation of the Ministry of Tourism or the representation of the Moroccan National Tourist Office.
Two habits make this smoother. First, read the passport rule literally: the passport must be valid longer than the stay, so a passport that expires a week after your planned return is not enough. Second, take the passport photocopy of the specific pages the consulate names — the identity pages and the validity pages — rather than a copy of the whole booklet.
What to provide when the visa is issued
The tourism category then lists a second set to provide at the time of visa issuance:
- A return ticket with confirmed reservation;
- Travel insurance;
- A hotel booking, or introduction of a voucher;
- Chancery (consular) fees.
This is easy to miss because these items are not asked for at the application counter; they belong to the later stage. Have them ready so the issuance step does not stall.
Category-specific documents
Every other category builds on the same base — form, two 4 × 3 cm white-background photos, identity/address document, valid passport with validity longer than the stay, and the passport photocopy — and adds what the purpose of travel requires.
| Work | A contract of employment duly validated by the Ministry of Employment |
| Business | A recommendation of the appropriate Ministry (public business); a written recommendation from professional chambers (private markets); an invitation from the organising body for fairs and exhibitions; or a written invitation from an industrial, commercial or service operator |
| Investor | A recommendation of the Management of the External Investments or a professional federation; or of the proper authority for supervision, or Regional Centres of Investment (C.R.I); or of a Moroccan partner or foreign investor branch in Morocco |
| Conference | A mission order for governmental applicants and an invitation from the entity that invites and organises the event |
| Student / trainee / researcher | Enrolment or scholarship documents and proof of sufficient means (student); an original internship agreement signed by the host organisation (trainee); a hosting agreement with an approved Moroccan research organisation (researcher) |
| Family reunification | Documents establishing the authenticity and legality of the marriage certificate, the family relationship, Kafala or inter-country adoption, or responsibility for an ascendant, as applicable |
| Journalists | Preliminary approval of the governmental authority in charge of Communication, and a shooting authorisation request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation covering purpose, place, period, date and border of arrival, and a filming equipment list |
| Visitor (long stay) | An application for establishment for a long stay (greater than one year) with the intended residence, a bank statement, a written declaration of no professional activity, adjustment of status by the Directorate-General of National Security, and medical cover or insurance |
| Medical stay | A medical certificate, proof of coverage for hospitalisation costs and possible repatriation, and an admission agreement to a hospital structure |
| Refugees and stateless persons | A document proving financial resources |
If you are preparing the scan or the digital file for any of these, our digital file requirements guide covers resolution and format, and the passport photo checker can verify an image against a country’s published figures.
Before you file — a 60-second check
- Print two photos at 4 × 3 cm on a white background — not a 35 × 45 mm passport photo.
- Check the passport is valid longer than the duration of stay.
- Photocopy the passport identity and validity pages.
- Have a bank statement and the purpose document (invitation or agency request) ready.
- Prepare the issuance-stage items: return ticket, insurance, hotel booking or voucher, and fees.
- Add the category-specific document if you are applying to work, do business, invest or study.
Frequently asked questions
What size photo does a Morocco visa application need?
The consulate lists two colour identity photographs on a white background, 4 x 3 cm, showing the features of the face clearly. Note that 4 x 3 cm is not the same as the 35 x 45 mm (3.5 x 4.5 cm) size used for many passport photos, so check the size before you print.
How many photos do I need?
Two. The tourism, work, business, investor, conference, student, family reunification, journalist, visitor, medical and refugee categories all ask for two identity photographs in colour on a white background, 4 x 3 cm.
How long must my passport be valid for a Morocco visa?
The consulate states that the validity of the passport or travel document must be longer than the duration of stay. So the passport must outlast the trip, not merely be valid on the day you apply.
What are the basic documents for a Morocco tourist visa?
The entry visa application form; two colour photos on a white background (4 x 3 cm); an identity card or residence permit or any document proving the address; a valid passport; a photocopy of the passport showing the identity and validity pages; a bank statement; and either a legalised invitation or a request from an authorised travel agency (or a tourism recommendation).
What extra documents are needed when the visa is issued?
For tourism, the consulate asks at the time of visa issuance for a return ticket with confirmed reservation, travel insurance, a hotel booking or a voucher, and the chancery (consular) fees.
What documents are needed for a work visa?
The work category uses the same base documents as tourism (form, two 4 x 3 cm white-background photos, identity/address document, valid passport, passport photocopy) and adds a contract of employment duly validated by the Ministry of Employment.
What is different about a business visa application?
The business category adds one of the following, depending on the trip: a recommendation of the appropriate Ministry for public business, a written recommendation from the professional chambers for private markets, an invitation from the organising body for fairs and exhibitions, or a written invitation from an industrial, commercial or service operator.
What documents are needed for an investor visa?
The investor category adds a recommendation from the Management of the External Investments or a professional federation, or from the proper authority for supervision, or from the Regional Centres of Investment (C.R.I), or from a Moroccan partner or a foreign investor branch in Morocco.
What is needed for a visitor or long-stay application?
The visitor category adds an application for immigration or establishment for a long stay (greater than one year) mentioning the intended residence; a bank statement showing sufficient means of subsistence; a written declaration of no professional activity during the stay; adjustment of status by the Directorate-General of National Security; and medical cover or insurance for the period of residence.
Does the consulate publish full photo rules such as head size?
No. The page specifies the size and background (two colour photos, white background, 4 x 3 cm) and that the features of the face must be clear. It does not publish a head-size proportion or an expression rule, so those are not stated here.
