Vietnam Passport Documents Checklist
A Vietnamese passport is issued by the provincial police immigration office (Công an Tỉnh). This checklist covers the non-chip passport procedure: the steps, the timeline and what to bring. Verified against the national public service portal (TTHC 1.001456), October 2026.
The 15-second answer
Prepare your papers, lodge the application (in person, online or by post), pay the fee, and collect it — the whole thing takes 8 working days. First-time applicants apply in their province of permanent or temporary residence; CCCD holders may use a province convenient to them.
Which passport this is
This checklist is for the non-chip passport (hộ chiếu không gắn chíp điện tử). This is not the chip passport (hộ chiếu có gắn chíp) — the two are separate procedures with their own forms. Confirm which one you need before you start.
The process, step by step
- Prepare your documents. Have your identity papers ready before you begin.
- Lodge the application. Submit in your province of permanent or temporary residence (first-time); holders of a CCCD may submit in a province convenient to them. You may apply online through the national public service portal or the police ministry portal, or in person, with extra papers sent by post as instructed. Present your CMND/CCCD or a valid passport when you attend.
- Pay the fee when the application is accepted.
- Collect the passport with your receipt and identity document — or choose postal delivery for an additional fee.
