What this checks: the file’s format, resolution and size against the selected type, plus a canvas pass for overall brightness and dark ink touching the frame border. It does not read the text — for that, OCR is a separate job.
Why preflight a document photo?
Online forms reject document photos for predictable reasons: a HEIC straight off a phone, a scan too low-resolution for the text to be legible, a file over the portal’s size cap, harsh shadow or glare, or a page photographed so close that its edge is cut off. This tool checks those before you upload, so a rejection does not cost you a resubmission. It is deliberately honest about its limits: it measures format, pixels, size, brightness and edge coverage, and it does not perform optical character recognition. Fix a failed size with the image compressor, lift resolution with the image resizer, or straighten a skewed page with the image cropper; for face photos use the passport photo checker.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read on your device and nothing is uploaded. Only the image is inspected, and it is not stored between visits.
What does it check?
Format, resolution, file size, overall exposure, and whether dark ink touches the border of the frame — the usual sign that a page has been cropped past its edge.
Does it read the text on the document?
No. It is a preflight check, not optical character recognition. It measures brightness and edge coverage; it does not read or extract any text.
Why does cropped-edge detection matter?
If the page edge runs off the photo, information near the border can be missing, and a portal may reject the upload. Pulling the camera back so all four edges are visible avoids this.
How is this different from the photo upload preflight?
The photo upload preflight targets ID and face photos and checks a portal's published format, pixel, size and aspect rules. This one targets photos of documents and forms, and adds an exposure and edge-coverage pass.
What should I do if a check fails?
Re-shoot with even lighting and the whole page inside the frame, or fix the file: compress an oversized image, resize a low-resolution one, or crop and straighten a skewed scan.
