Two background rules, not one

Greece is unusual: the printed photo background (white / cream / 5% grey) and the digital file background (a specific grey, RGB 190 ± 10) are two separate official rules that apply to two different submission routes. They are both listed above and must not be collapsed into one. Whichever route you submit, follow that route’s colour — do not average or mix them.

The rectangle-format mistake

Some third-party lists put Greece under the standard Schengen-style rectangle. The official Greek specification is 40 × 60 mm — a taller, wider frame. A Schengen-style crop is the wrong shape and size, and stretching it to fit distorts the face, so build the crop at 40 × 60 mm instead.

Process change you should know

Domestic applications now go through the gov.gr myPhoto digital route. Printed photos are being phased out: they are accepted at the latest until 31 January 2026. Outside Greece you may upload a digital file or submit an analogue print (home inkjet/laser prints are not accepted), and some consulates take the photo on site.

A capture distance (how far to stand from the camera) is not published for Greece; that is marked as unverified rather than guessed.
