Austria Passport Application Guide
An Austrian passport is issued by the Passbehörde (the passport authority of your state) for a standard fee of 112 Euro. This guide covers the documents, the minor rules and the validity. Verified against oesterreich.gv.at, October 2026.

Apply at your Passbehörde — some require an appointment. A standard passport costs 112 Euro (from age 12), is valid 10 years and is not extendable.
Fees
- 112 Euro — standard passport from age 12.
- 44 Euro — ages 2 to 12.
- Free — first issue up to and including the 2nd birthday; a further passport then costs 44 Euro.
- Second passport — also 112 Euro.
- Foreign document fee — 42 Euro (foreign passport) or 21 Euro (foreign ID) for official use.
Documents (four-tier substitution)
- Old passport — expired within 5 years, or identifiable from its photo.
- Personalausweis — under the same 5-year rule.
- Other official photo ID.
- If none: an Identitätszeuge (witness) holding an official photo ID.
Additional documents may be requested.
Minors
- 18 and under: proof of representation is required.
- Attendance: the child must attend in person for identity verification from birth, including a baby.
Validity and reminders
- Standard: 10 years.
- Children: 2 years up to age 2, 5 years from age 2, 10 years from age 12.
- No extension — a passport is reissued on expiry.
- Ausweis Erinnerungsservice — an automatic expiry reminder.
