Belize Passport Application Guide
Belize passports are issued by the Immigration Department as biometric e-passports, with documents reviewed, payment at the Government cashier and biometrics captured on site. This guide covers the fees, the 6–8 week wait and the documents. Verified against immigration.gov.bz, October 2026.
The 15-second answer
Bring original documents plus copies, pay at the Government cashier, then give your biometrics at the Data Capturing Station. Fees are BZ$200.00 for a 10-year e-passport (16+) and BZ$150.00 for a 5-year e-passport (under 16). A regular e-passport is processed within 6–8 weeks.

Applying for a Belize e-Passport from overseas includes additional administrative fees (shipping and handling) within the passport fees. Equivalent US-dollar fees are published as $50.00 (16 and over) and $30.00 (children under 16), with a replacement of a lost, stolen or mutilated passport at $85.00 (16 and over) and $55.00 (under 16).
A regular e-passport is processed within 6–8 weeks from the date of application.
Documents you need
- Application form — correctional fluid is not accepted, errors or scratches may cause rejection, and your signature must match the identification document provided.
- Proof of Belizean citizenship — birth certificate issued by the Vital Statistical Unit (born in Belize); original Belize Naturalisation Certificate (born outside Belize); or adoption certificate issued by the Vital Statistical Unit.
- Photo identification — a Belize Social Security Card, Belize Voters Registration Card or any Government-issued photo identification.
- One passport-size photo — 2 × 2 inches, white background, facial front view, no sleeveless clothing; taken no more than 6 months before the application.
- Proof of any name change, where applicable.
Original documents must be presented at the time of submission along with copies, and any document not in English must be translated by a certified translator.
Name changes
- Amendment to a name: a deed poll issued by the Belize Vital Statistical Unit, or an adoption certificate where the change is due to adoption.
- Marriage: for women wishing to acquire their marital surname, the original marriage certificate plus photo identification with the desired name.
- Divorced or widowed: a divorce decree or death certificate, plus a copy of the birth certificate and photo identification, to revert to a maiden name.
If a name has changed more than once, documentation indicating each transition must be provided.
The process
- Your application package is reviewed to confirm you have all supporting documents for the chosen service.
- Payment is made to the Government of Belize cashier, who issues a Government Revenue Collector’s receipt stating the applicant’s name, service, amount paid and date.
- You proceed to the Data Capturing Station, where your biometrics (facial image and all available fingerprints) are taken. The photo taken at the station is used on the passport biodata page.
- You receive an “Auxiliary Receipt” listing the application details and the date for passport pickup.
- Present your auxiliary receipt to collect the passport.
Children
At least one parent must accompany the child at the time of submission. Where the accompanying parent’s photo ID name differs from the name on the child’s birth, naturalisation or adoption certificate, documentation of the change of name must be provided.
