Georgia Passport Application Guide
A Georgian passport is biometric and is issued by the Public Service Development Agency (SDA) and the Public Service Hall, or through a Georgian embassy or consulate abroad. Apply for a biometric passport at any SDA territorial office, any Public Service Hall branch, a Georgian diplomatic or consular office abroad, or online. Bring an ID card and a colour photo (you can have it taken at the office for GEL 5). An adult passport is valid 10 years. Fees run from GEL 150 (10 working days) up to GEL 350 (same day).

Step 3 — the biometric passport
Unlike an ordinary passport, the biometric passport carries an electronic chip holding the holder’s personal data, an electronic photo and fingerprints. It is issued to Georgian citizens of any age.

An adult passport is issued for a term of 10 years. The photo can be taken on the spot for GEL 5.
Children and young applicants
- Under 16: birth certificate; the ID card (if the child has turned 14); the consent of both parents (given before an authorised employee or at a notary); both parents’ ID cards; and a colour photo (GEL 5).
- 16–18: birth certificate; ID card; the consent of one parent; a minor who is in a registered marriage does not need the consent of a legal representative. A passport is issued for a term of 3 years.
- A passport request may be made by the applicant who has reached the age of 14, or by a legal representative.
Applying from abroad
- Online: prepared in 2 working days and delivered or shipped; fee GEL 300.
- Through a representative (a notarised power of attorney submitted at an SDA office or Public Service Hall branch): GEL 230 on the 10th working day or GEL 300 on the 5th working day.
- At an embassy or consulate: prepared within 45 days; fee USD 50.
The photo
The passport record needs a colour photo, and you can have one taken on the spot at the Public Service Hall or the SDA territorial office for GEL 5. The SDA passport service does not publish a millimetre or pixel format for the passport photo, so confirm the current requirement when you apply.
