Thailand Passport Guide

Thai passports are issued by the Consular Department (กรมการกงสุล), Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This guide covers the fees, the same-day express option, EMS delivery and how collection works. Verified against the Consular Department fee and delivery page, October 2026.

The 15-second answer

An ordinary passport is 1,000 baht for the 5-year book or 1,500 baht for the 10-year book, at every office. A same-day express service costs 3,000 / 3,500 baht if the application is made before 11:00. Postal delivery by EMS is 40 baht.

Who issues it and where to apply

Passports are issued by the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ordinary applications are accepted at every office. The express service, which produces the book on the same day, is offered at every office for applications made before 11:00, but the book is collected at the Consular Department.

Postal delivery (EMS)

If you choose postal delivery, the fee is 40 baht by EMS:

Delivery time is counted from the date the application is filed. Someone must be at the delivery address to receive the passport; if the post is returned, you must contact the Consular Department in Bangkok to collect it yourself, or pay the postal service again to have it redelivered.

The Consular Department does not publish a downloadable photo size on this fee page; passport photos are normally taken on site at the office as part of the application. How much does a Thai passport cost?

The Consular Department reserves the right to destroy a passport if you do not contact them or collect it within 90 days.

Are passport fees refundable?
No. Passport fees that have been paid are not refunded under any circumstances, and you cannot collect the book before the date stated on the receipt.
