Uganda Passport Application Guide
A Ugandan passport is applied for online through the DCIC Passport Portal, then completed by enrolment at a passport centre. This guide covers the documents, the nine steps and the fees. Verified against the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control, October 2026.
The 15-second answer
Apply at passports.go.ug: complete the form, print the payment advice, pay at a bank, book an appointment, then report to a passport centre for enrolment. An ordinary passport costs 250,000 UGX; express processing adds 150,000 UGX.
Documents — ordinary
- National ID or National Identification Number (NIN).
- A recommendation letter, together with the recommender's National ID.
- Documents supporting your profession, if applicable.
Documents — minors
- Birth certificate.
- Parents' National IDs and passports.
- A letter of consent from the parents.
- If the child is adopted, an adoption order from the High Court of Uganda.
The nine steps
- Go to the Passport Portal (passports.go.ug).
- Accept the terms in the Disclaimer.
- Answer the simple security questions.
- Complete the passport application form.
- Print the Passport Application Payment Advice Form.
- Pay for the passport type using the selected method at the selected bank.
- Schedule an appointment for a date of your convenience.
- Print the Passport Application Appointment Form.
- Report to the selected passport centre with the appointment form and the requirements, for enrolment.
Fees
- Ordinary passport: 250,000 UGX.
- Express processing: an extra 150,000 UGX, paid separately in a bank.
Preparing a photo
The application does not ask you to decide the photo size yourself — enrolment captures your biometrics at the centre. If you need a photo for a different document, start from the photo size chart and check it with the free passport photo checker.
