The 2 × 2 inch (about 51 mm) frame
The frame is a square: 2 inches on each side, which is 50.8 mm, or about 51 mm. Keep the square proportion and enough resolution for a sharp print — but note that no pixel figure is published, so any specific number is a working assumption rather than a quoted requirement. Because the format is square rather than the 35 × 45 mm portrait rectangle most of Europe uses, an existing passport photo will not crop to it without losing part of the frame; start from a square crop. Background: white
The background must be white. A plain wall or a white backdrop sheet works; what fails is uneven light — a shadow behind the head, a reflection from a flash, or a lamp close on one side that turns the white into a grey gradient. The figures above are the embassy's published requirements and they are written in US inches — the square 2 × 2 inch format that a US-located embassy would naturally use. Tunisia's central authority may state a different millimetre size for the same document, and the central portals were not reachable to confirm it at the time of writing, so the difference could not be checked against the primary source.
Treat 2 × 2 inches as the embassy format and follow it if you are applying through the embassy.
